The new Google Workspace will ease some of the responsibilities of departments.

Google has announced an update to its Workspace productivity suite that will assist in explaining why customers are unable to use their applications.

The software giant explained that IT departments which depend on the Context-Aware Access feature to provide granular access control. They can give end users more information about the conditions under which they can use their apps.

Employees whose access to Google Workspace services has been restricted previously had few alternatives except to contact the IT department. However, the new tool has the potential that users may fix such issues without any help.

Hybrid working and identity management

Identity and access control have become more significant for organizations since hybrid working. As employees no longer only operate from the safety of the corporate network perimeter.

The goal is to provide employees access to all the resources to work effectively without leaving vulnerabilities in security that cybercriminals could abuse.

Many IT departments now prefer to define a stringent set of regulations. These must be followed for apps to perform as an intended process, using Context-Aware Access features.

Google explained that administrators can give granular access control policies to apps. These policies are based on factors like user identification, location, device security status, and IP address. If the user or device does not fulfill the criteria; it will be unable to access the corresponding apps.

Until now the employees who were locked out of their applications had an only choice was to open a ticket with IT support. This causes unnecessary delays in providing support and problem resolution. With this update, the process would be simplified and concise with a rapid efficient solution.

However, with the recent Workspace upgrade, IT administrators can inform banned workers of the reason for their restriction. They would also be able to provide them with the information they need to fix the issue themselves.

We can see both Google and Microsoft are making improvements in their productivity suite. Google is making Workspace accessible for users. While Microsoft is making Microsoft Office 365 user-friendly and convenient to assist us in tedious operational tasks. Only time can tell which productivity software will have more advantage. As for now, we all are mere spectators!
