Meta’s intention to charge for Facebook and Instagram might be the clincher

In time, you may see certain premium services that you’ll have to pay for when going through your social media platform feeds including Facebook or Instagram, and WhatsApp. It might spell the end of many users. According to a leaked document obtained by technology news website – The Verge, Meta has formed a new group named New Monetization Experiences to brainstorm new methods to increase income in the wake of Apple’s new privacy laws, which curtailed Meta’s advertising techniques. Snapchat and Telegram have already launched monetization alternatives to give special content behind a curtain but seeing a Facebook Plus or Instagram Plus may be too much for others. With Instagram presently at a low point owing to several undesirable features, having a paid alternative might be the deciding factor for many, causing them to go to other social networks.

Meta can’t help but create more difficulties for its users

In the early days of Facebook around 2008 when viral postings would continuously promise that your account will be locked behind a paywall as soon as you logged in. In the early days, utilizing a social network like Facebook was new and exciting, a deviation from MySpace and Bebo, so these anxieties would be all over news pages, but they were refuted soon. Nowadays, we expect to see this as a reason for users to leave, rather than wishing that it doesn’t happen. There is a growing consensus that Facebook, and, more lately, Instagram, has grown obsolete and out of touch with what people want. Meta appears to be unsure of what to focus on, from NFTs to a full-screen view on Instagram, as well as postings on Facebook that rarely provide relevance to what you want to read. Seeing additional features that users will not want to pay for would just aggravate the situation and drive them to other platforms, such as Glass and Twitter.

Users like using Instagram, but its increased emphasis on video, particularly when we get to Suggested Posts when scrolling through the news feed, has gotten grating, especially because they’re always tangential to user interests. However, now people use Facebook to browse Groups for memes and keep in touch with certain relatives and friends who do not use WhatsApp. It makes sense for WhatsApp to offer some features to compete with a tech giant like Apple’s iMessage and WeChat. However, for casual users who only use Facebook, seeing features for a price could be the final straw for many, and further evidence that Meta is panicking about how it can benefit its users in the long run.
