There’s an upgrade in Quoted Search

Google is upgrading Touch to Search on the mobile Chrome app and altering the way quoted searches operate on its search engine.

When you insert quote marks around a search phrase, Google returns results that contain those precise words.

The issue with the previous method was that Google Search results did not show the location of the term on the page. You had to look a bit harder. However, a little sample will now appear beneath the search results indicating where you may locate your quoted word in a bold language.

The update appears to have already taken effect. We put a search word surrounded by quote marks into Google Search and received results that included excerpts of the text.

Originally hesitant

Google stated that the snippet wasn’t introduced earlier because some websites made it difficult to integrate.

A certain term may be hidden behind a page menu or in another section of the website, requiring you to spend time searching for it. Despite this problem, Google opted to proceed with the snippet change.

Google recognizes that the snippet adjustments are neither flawless nor the same. If the cited phrase appears numerous times on a web page, the snippet may not show all of them if they are too far off from each other.

The terms in bold will be primarily restricted to Google Search for desktop. The bold text will not display in snippets discovered in particular search modes, such as Images or News, or on mobile.

Chrome tweaks

Chrome mobile’s Touch to Search functionality has been updated.

Touch to Search allows users to highlight certain words or phrases to search for them easily without leaving the website. Upon updating Google Chrome on our mobile device, we can confirm the update is rolled out.

The tool may now govern how users engage with the feature at a finer level. You may enable the include surrounding text in the Google results option in the Chrome Settings menu to include the text around a highlighted term in a Google search for better results.

Accepted hand movements have also been changed, with Google claiming that the method has just been standardized.

Previously, to highlight a word, you had to tap and hold it down. Chrome now detects highlighting with a single press.

Google also announced new Chrome features, one of which is adding suggestions based on the word or phrase you selected. For example, if you highlight the term “San Francisco,” you may get options for “San Francisco events” or “San Francisco population.”
