Microsoft Edge browser will be allowing browsing through a free VPN however there would be a data restriction.
With all the Edge browser updates Microsoft Office 365 parent company is adding a free VPN to the browser according to recent news on the company’s official page.
According to Microsoft, the Edge browser is offering secure browsing and with its free VPN, your connection will be encrypted.
The company claims Edge will keep its users safe online but the network users join may not be safe. With Microsoft Edge’s secure network the customers can protect their devices and enjoy data protection as they browse.

People have always been frustrated by the fact that Edge has been pre-installed in Windows 10 and 11 but a free and secure VPN is the thing that many users would sure welcome with open arms. Anyone who has to use VPN faces doubts regarding browser security. So, this built-in VPN could be something most users would love to use.
The free VPN service will be first provided to Insiders, so this service is not available at the moment for the public to try on. There are a few things that users might be concerned about:
- The data limit on usage will be an issue. Microsoft users would be able to use Edge secure network for up to 1 GB/month. If you are someone who uses VPN occasionally then you are fine but if you travel a lot, you know this is not enough for the browsing limit.
- For some users, VPN is important for online security. However, in order to use Edge Secure Network, you have to log in to your Microsoft account to use it. The concerning part is, that at the end of the service period bandwidth data will be deleted automatically.

Microsoft Edge is competing against Google Chrome. Especially now when Gmail company’s search engine is considered to be easily “hackable”. Even with data limit and deleted data Microsoft Edge may still seem like a better option to many people for its privacy protection feature.
