Google Pay is getting a usability boost for Android users, following a complete redesign of its app earlier this year. Google Pay balance may now be used to make in-store NFC payments with a virtual card, starting this week.
The Google Pay app now includes a virtual card for your account balance, which was released this week. This allows customers to spend cash earned from incentives or provided by friends and family for in-store payments right away. Of course, this is only possible with Android devices that enable NFC at stores that accept the payment method.
Prior to this change, you could only use your Google Pay balance to send money to other people, buy things online or in the Google products/Play Store, or transfer money to your bank account.
This made it impossible to utilize the money in stores unless you paid extra to have cash moved to a bank account immediately or waited 1-3 days for the funds to process.
You’ll need to request the Google Pay balance card using the Pay app.
In the United States, Android users may now obtain a virtual Google Pay balance card to use at merchants who support Google Pay for contactless payments (in-store) or tokenized payments via Buy with Google Pay (online).
According to Google, this feature is now being rolled out in the United States and will soon be available to “all” Android users.
