The new Google Play Store data deletion policy is giving more authority to users. It mandates that Android developers should give customers an online choice to erase their profiles. Moreover, in-app data has been made public by Google Workspace parent company.
Beginning in early 2024, the new policy will give Google Play users greater control over their data. Furthermore, every store description will show links in the “Data deletion” section that will enable them to request the eradication of their profiles and/or data.
Because Workspace Google company wants to enable users to erase their data without having to reinstall every app. Moreover, developers who give an in-app account deletion experience will also need to provide a web-based alternative.
The new policy
According to the new policy, you must also remove the data linked to an account. The Workspace of Google company claims when you comply with a request to have it deleted.
The function also offers developers a way to give users more choices. The users who might not want to completely erase their account can choose to delete other data only when necessary. Such as activity history, images, or videos.
You must clearly disclose those data retention practices for developers who need to retain certain data for legitimate reasons. These reasons include security, fraud prevention, or regulatory compliance.
The new Play Store regulation will be fully implemented in 201. After the makers share more information about their data deletion procedures by December 7.
The ability to post new apps and issue app updates will expire for those who fail to submit the necessary deletion practice information on time.
After May 31, 2024, makers who create non-compliant apps may have their apps removed from Google Play. Until then, they can submit a request for an extension through the Play Store Console.
The statement by Google comes after Apple made a similar move mandating that beginning in June 2022. The developers of apps with an account registration choice also give users a way to delete their identities from within.
